LAKE MAGGIORE AND ORTA IN A SAILBOAT

There are books that do more than simply tell a story: they breathe, they quiver, they undulate like the waters that inspired them. The photo book *Lago Maggiore and Orta by Sailboat*, by photographer Walter Zerla, returns in 2026 in a new, expanded edition.

This work is the result of three years spent entirely on a boat—sometimes in the solitary tranquility of the lake, sometimes sharing the journey with friends and travel companions. Three years of sailing and waiting, of shots captured at dawn and dusk, transformed into images that preserve the intimacy and soul of the two lakes.

The 2026 reissue is not merely a reprint: it is a revamped book, enriched with previously unpublished images captured by a drone that took off directly from the boat to capture never-before-seen perspectives. Like the unhindered gaze of a seagull, the photographs soar over harbors, villages and shores, offering a suspended view that weaves together sky, water and stone into a single narrative.

Within these pages, you’ll find the morning stillness of the small marinas, the play of sails reflected on the water and the silhouettes of the mountains that watch over the lakes like ancient guardians. The most intimate details are not overlooked: a coiled rope, a rippling wave, a face gazing into the distance. Each image becomes part of a visual symphony that celebrates the encounter between humanity, nature, and time.

This new edition is also linked to the SAILING scientific project, promoted by the CNR in Pallanza and supported by Fantini Rubinetti, which studies water quality and the sustainability of our lakes. Photography and research thus come together in a fruitful dialogue: art and science unite to preserve and recount the fragility and beauty of water, a precious and shared resource.
