Dr Guthorn has tracked down the history of these boats and shows in illustrations and text the local development, details of construction and materials used in building them. Prominent builders are listed, with their dates and their particular techniques. The author also goes into detail to describe other sea skiffs such as the Barnegat sneakbox, built to provide access into narrow inlets, tidal creeks and marshes and other lesser known types of sea skiffs, some of which survive only in museums.
