The volume is inspired by Herman Melville’s novel of the same name and takes its cue from the many analyses and interpretations contained in the pages of this 19th-century American masterpiece: the relationship between humankind and nature; the conflict between good and evil; the feelings of passion and revenge; the coexistence of marine creatures and human beings; the theme of travel and discovery.

Starting from these multiple perspectives, the catalogue offers a narrative journey that guides us through the artistic universe generated by the novel, ranging from ancient to contemporary art, with works by Italian and international artists such as Pino Pascali, Piero Manzoni, Joan Jonas, Wu Tsang, Carsten Höller; from design to illustration, from the history of navigation to science, from literature to music.
