After his lenghty, fascinating adventure aboard the Amerigo Vespucci, the Italian Navy sent Carlo Mari on a new “Mission”. His photos tell of the dedication, effort and passion of italian sailors and aviators, even when they serve far from home.
After boarding the flagship of the Italian Navy, the aircraft carrier Cavour, he sailed for over a month, from Tokio to Indonesia, photographing multinational manoeuvres that saw Italy’s Carrier Strike Group enter the Indo-Pacific region for the first time, docking in 18 ports in 14 different countries.
The striking black-and-white images of this new photographic challenge, met under extreme conditions, fully convey the atmosphere, thrills and beauty of the mission. Breath-taking panoramas, along with hyper-technological ships and planes, are captured from unexpected angles, along with the genuine faces and expressions of the crew that shared the voyage with the photographer.
In collaboration with the Italian Navy and featuring a foreword by the Commander of the Carrier Strike Group, Giancarlo Ciappina.
