The Amerigo Vespucci is the symbolic sailing ship of the Italian Navy, admired throughout the world as an example of maritime beauty and uniqueness.

Carlo Mari, the only civilian photographer on board the ship during the Atlantic crossing, had the opportunity, by authorization of the Navy, to photograph the life on board and the crew during navigation, including students from the Military Academy of Livorno.

The result is a photographic story focused not so much and not only on the ship, but also on the men who govern it, who take care of it and who make it so special.

A trip from other times and timeless of how the photographer sees and has seen the life that takes place on the ship, through an intimate, sensitive journey close to the crewmen and the cadet students in their first experience.

Volume created in collaboration with the Italian Navy.

"The sea has no homeland either, and it belongs to all those who stop to listen to it, on this side and on that, where the sun is born and dies".
