Description

This book contributed to the cataloguing of 1530 species placing Colombia as the country with the richest diversity of marine molluscs in the Western Hemisphere. Many new species were discovered and photographed for the first time in this book and many more are under identification for an upcoming article on deep water shells. The total area covered in this study during the 5 year collection expedition was, 30% of the continental coast and only 5 % around the Islands of San Andres and Providencia. This leads us to believe that we possess around 70% of the recorded species in the entire Western Hemisphere. We hope that the growing interest in the mollusca of this part of the Caribbean Sea will allow us to investigate the remaining territory in the near future.
