At the origins of the maritime container: Lloyd Triestino and the Australia route

The Container should rightly be considered as a “superstar” of the globalisation phenomenon in recent decades. It has served to democratize territories, leading to the creation of industrial sites all over the world as the cost of intercontinental maritime transport has shrunk dramatically. The planner grew “global” thanks to the container: from the point of view of industrial logistics, before hits advent only a quarter of the planet was reachable. With the container all nations are now a part of the globalisation process. Is that a good or a bad thing? It depends on your point of view, but objectively speaking globalisation is a creation of the container, not the WTO.
